In honor of March being Social Work Month, we wanted to take the time to highlight how the social workers here on our campus play a large role in helping to provide what is known as “The Notre Dame Difference.” Social workers play a critical role in navigating the many complexities around the healthcare needs of residents and patients. They may provide assistance to residents/patients as well as family members by helping with transition, social and emotional support, care planning and more.
Here at Notre Dame Health Care, we believe the benefits of having a social worker involved in a patient’s or resident’s care are priceless. Our social workers assist patients and their families in a number of ways throughout our organization. In fact, we have social workers that work with families and their loved ones at our du Lac Assisted Living Residence and Long Term Care and Rehabilitation Center as part of the admissions process. In addition to those roles, we have social workers involved in the care teams for our Long Term Care and Rehabilitation Center as well as our Hospice and Palliative Care programs.
Within each program they bring their expertise to the communities and populations they serve. Part of “The Notre Dame Difference” includes focusing on the well-being of not only residents and patients but their families too. We are proud of the holistic approach to the care we provide and believe it is what sets us apart from other healthcare programs.
Since the start of the pandemic two years ago, the need for social workers has been far more evident. Many healthcare organizations are now realizing the value of the role they play in serving the community at large. At Notre Dame Health Care, we have always valued social workers and we are blessed to have so many of them as members of our care teams. We cannot thank them enough for their tireless work and all they do for our organization and those we serve each day.
